Attention LJ users!

There is no longer any need to use Sendspace and Megaupload to share files. They are both lame. They are slow. They require waiting/CAPTCHAS/no multiple downloads. Please stop using them. You're not doing yourself any favors.

Instead, please consider switching to drop.io or EatLime or even Media Fire.

Doing this small thing will greatly please me. Oh yes. It will.

Oh noes! I'm lame and uncool! But change is so haaaard:(

No, no, you can do it! Just delete the old Megashitload bookmark and replace with the shiny new one. I swear you will not be sorry, and your downloaders will thank you.

I use MediaFire for everything I can, but it's got a stunningly small upload limit and glacier-like upload speed. You're the second of three people I trust about these things to recommend drop.io. Is it really that good? It still has that 100 MB limit which I'm finding so - well, limiting.

Eh, tricky, but it is a blessing once you try and download stuff from it. No questions asked, no hanging connections, no throttled bitrates, just the files, the whole files, and nothing but the files (no ads on the page, either).

Question to assorted users: some on my flist use box.net for the same purposes - is it any good?

I've used box.net, but found it a pain to set up the account.

If you want to upload huge unzipped video files, then yes, I suppose drop.io wouldn't have enough space for you. Eat Lime might be better for you, since it was invented with video uploads in mind, and the best part is others can start downloading as you're uploading, which saves everyone time.

Do you know if any of these handy-dandy places has links that will last a lifetime? Or, at least, a few months? That's what I dislike most about Sendspace, but I haven't investigated further (or been willing to pay) beyond my comfort zone. Thanks for the tips, by the way. :)

You can set drop.io drops to last for a year after the last download. That's pretty long! And it's free.

You are so cool. I had no idea about drop.io and EatLime. Thanks~

I live to serve. :)

I use Mediafire and I loathe Sendspace and Megaupload (I hate waiting). I didn't know about the other two you recommended. I bookmarked them because it's always good to have options.
