Yes, the German word for leek is "Lauch". It is one of quite a few words that sound so awful to me that I don't want to eat it. ("Zwiebel" for onion is another, although I really hate onions. Or "Spargel" for asparagus. Ew.)
Maybe I should start calling it leek.
