Teh Plague, I Will Beats Eet

Taking a sick day to try and head off the plague at the pass. Everyone at work got ill last week and I thought I had avoided it neatly. But I felt it start to take hold yesterday, so I loaded up on ginger ale and Zicam and locked myself in my room. Overkill? Maybe. But at least I feel much better quicker.

Since it's rainy out and I'm locked inside anyway, I thought this would be a good day to get some book news out of the way!

Twitter friends will know that I've finished Pride & Prejudice & Zombies this week. If you've been living under a rock, then maybe you haven't heard about Quirk Books' latest offering, a brilliant mash-up of the original Jane Austen text with added scenes of zombie violence. Oh, and there are ninjas. Did I mention ninjas?

If you're worried that this sounds retarded, may I say in return that you, sir, are the retarded one? THIS BOOK WAS BRILLIANT. I don't know how else to say it. Some people, like BB's Cory Doctorow, hate Austen so much that the book wasn't fun enough for them. But those people are losers. Look, I don't like Austen either, but this book was too good to hold that against it. Buy it. I'm serious. Right now.

I also finished up Clarkson on Cars which I was given recently by jackpy. I don't really know what to say about this book. I think the most fun thing about it is, it's so OLD and Jeremy Clarkson is ranting about cars that are no longer in production, that it's almost like looking back in time. The piece he wrote about car phones, for example. BLAST FROM THE MOTHER FUCKING PAST. I don't even remember the last car phone I saw.

Plus, is it me, or has Mr Clarkson mellowed with age? He seems so angry on paper. Maybe it's just the medium that makes it seem more stark and less playful than television. At any rate, my favorite piece was when he wrote about coming upon a car crash in the middle of nowhere and having to help the injured girl and, CHRIST, mobile phones had just been invented but he didn't have one! It was scary and made me very fond of Jeremy all over again.

Other books I'm finishing up are Stephen Fry's America (which is lovely, but since I'd already seen the television series I feel like I've already gotten the story of that already) and Jon Hodgman's latest More Information than You Require (which is funny, but very difficult to get through quickly, much like Colbert's book).

I also finished disc 2 of season 2 of Dexter today. Dang, that show is good. I want him to continue murdering SO MUCH.

Well, I should probably read or something. I'll take some more medicine and get to it. *is bored*
