30 Days: Morgan Spurlock can kiss my ass

So after much hemming and hawing, I finally decided to sign up for NaNoWriMo. Thank you, everyone, for being so supportive, even the ones who voted no but hoped I did it anyway. Those tickled me the most.

If you are also doing NaNoWriMo, you can find me under the same ol' username: triedunture. If you are also in the NYC area and are going to the kick-off meetup on Thursday...can you let me know? I'm going to go, but it'll be scary and full of people I don't know.

In the coming days, I will be posting my silly little wordcount calendar, which I made at work on a very old-school print-out calendar, the ones you used to get in elementary school? Where November has a picture of Thanksgiving dinner at the top, and there's always a "thinking question" like "What's your favorite part of Thanksgiving?"

I wrote in the margin: MAKING MY FUCKING WORDCOUNT.

I will also be working on an outline for my novel. I've never done an outline before, but I think it'll be a good idea in this case. It'll be less of an outline and more like a series of prompts. Day one I'll have to write 2,000 words on this, Day two will be 2,000 words of that, etc.

Joining me on this writing venture will soon be my new Eee. I've been meaning to buy one for some time now, but when I looked at my November schedule and saw how many hours I'd be spending on the Chinatown bus to get to DC for Thanksgiving, I realized I would need a travel laptop with a better battery than my sad old Toshiba. Now I'll be able to write during the vacation.

Oh! My new Eee needs a name. My Toshiba's called Betsy. (Laptops, ships, and cars should all have girls' names.) Help me decide?

Voted Camilla, because I saw a movie recently with a lesbian named Camilla and the Eee looks like the type of laptop that would totally get it on with other laptops.

Also, mine's got a boy's name. I guess it's transsexual? =(

Well, Camilla's a nice name, and I didn't know the classical reference: the Camillas I can recall are a vampire and a royal-by-marriage, which is rather random. :)

Heh, wouldn't be at all surprised if that icon enjoys a vogue among the other NaNoers in times to come....

I am discovering I have an odd naming convention with my computers: naming them after characters from Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped. My hoary old laptop from 2001 (faithful companion through college) is "Alan Breck", for instance.

I like naming things with abandon. My ipod is called 'ipod of Doom II - The Return of Evil.' It died once and then came back to life for no reason. XD
