It's not the best combination. I'm typing out crap, swilling crap, and watching crap.

OH MY GOD. How am I going to watch 4 more hours of big maps and badly animated graphics!?

Come on, America! Let's get this thing done!

Oh, BTW, I reached my goal of 7200. Now I just wanna see a 270!

7220 / 50000 words. 14% done!

O hai online election party.

BBCA's election coverage has been fun, if devoid of Maddow. (We got Ricky Gervais and Chris Hitchens for the lulz instead).

Good snarky moment - Dimbleby to Republican strategist: "did you predict how much of a pickle McCain was about to get himself into?"

Happy shiny BBC electoral college-y page.

lulz, I got no cable, so I'm stuck with Brian Williams all night. How can I be doing this alone?? Worst idea ever.

Dude, I wish I had friends to drink with while watching this. Wanna be psychic drinking buddies? :) I'm in a computer lab writing a paper, but I'm procrastinating by constantly refreshing CNN, Fox News and MSNBC's (and now BBC's as well, thank you very much) websites. Also Comedy Central's Indecision 2008 website (tagline: "Something approximating election news with something approximating honesty" XD) because I want fair and balanced speculation.

I just want honest lulz! Also, your paper and my novel will go something like this:

"The dialectic argument represented by Schopenhauer's work could best be described as Pennsylvania is blue, Penn has gone blue! OMFG."

AND

"Leon was thinking deeply deep novel thoughts, thoughts you might find in America's next great novel when all of a sudden Florida finally got called. Polls closed and it's getting called for Obama. Then Leon got on the train and left Bangkok."

Another lol? Brian Williams passive-aggressive reporting: "Why are we not reporting on a big McCain party? Uh, it's invite-only at the Biltmore. Just saying." :D

I noticed the BBC took much longer to tally GA than NBC. It does seem pretty iffy. But I guess the metro area African-American pop. just couldn't compete with the white counties. And there are a LOT of white counties in Georgia.

Trufax: a friend of mine is no longer allowed to drive on Georgia roads b/c she was pulled over by a cop named Bart Simpson and she laughed at him.

zomg. I knew GA could be scary (from what I've heard reported from people who mainly visited Atlanta!) but eek.

Physically, yes; politically, no.

Schama is the British historian who's a great fan of America (he more or less resides at Columbia University).

XD

According to Poincaré, the best mathematicians have an "intuition of mathematical order" (Poincaré in Ghiselin, p. 24) that is essential in being able to come up with realistic campaign slogans, choosing vice presidential running mates that don't fall for prank calls for seven minutes and shoot wolves from helicopters, and may I reiterate my complete frustration with the candidates' positions on novel combinations of ideas in order to create new formulae, and this intuition makes up for any lack of memory or attention to detail that the pundits mathematicians may have.

Grr. This is hard. I keep wanting to cite polling data in my analysis.

A British historian...who's a fan of America?

Did he, like, skip over the late 1700s bits?

No, I know. I'm kind of fighting the urge to replace my novel's hero with a dashing young man of mixed race who grew up in an exotic locale and...

OH SHIT. I'M JUST WRITING A GAY AUSTRALIAN OBAMA BIO.

Well, he specializes in the history of Europe during the 1700s - he likes the US as it is now.

He once presented a series on the history of Britain, oddly enough: he's a sort of "tele-historian".
