I just bought Stephen Fry's Oscar Wilde Fairy Tales audiobook. My first ever iTunes purchase. Oh, how I hate Apple's DRM policies. Still, it is currently the only place to get my Wilde Fry fix: http://tinyurl.com/oscarfry.

It's a giant 2 hour chunk of audio, or else I would parse out a story or two for y'all. And though I'm sure we will soon be able to find this free somewhere, I am feeling pretty free with the old green and papery. Hopefully this purchase will help keep Fry's home site afloat. (And I also donated to NaNo because their servers did do spectacular work for the amount of traffic they have, and I would like to give it another shot next year.)

Oh dear. It looks like there are some Chekhov stories available too. I don't really LIKE Chekhov...

Mmmmm.

Maybe for my birthday.

THAT REMINDS ME. I THOUGHT OF A FANTASTIC BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA FOR Y'ALL.

Tomorrow is my Fake Birthday, the birthday I always celebrate because the 2nd of December is sort of like the 20th minus a zero and a lot less Jesus. I hope to have several presents for YOU on my Fake Birthday, because that's the way Fake Birthdays work. :D

BTW: Mr Fry is in my fair city tonight. Anyone know why? As in, is there some THING I should be watching out for?

I'm not familiar with iTunes, but there's a nifty program out there I use to steal music off of YouTube or other websites. It's a freeware program called Mp3 My Mp3 (http://www.mp3mymp3.com) , and you can direct it to record whatever you would normally hear from your speakers just as well by selecting Mono Out from the Source tab. Best to play around a bit before you record the whole thing, you don't want it to come out too loud/too quiet.

ARGH. I downloaded this program but the recording volume bar has something wrong with it. It's stuck at 0 and any attempt I make to pull it up to a proper level makes it shoot back to 0 in the end. And the source tab only offers Mic or CD, no Mono Out. I can't record anything. Halp?

That ... is really bizarre. Try uninstalling and reinstalling? Else, I'll see if I can't find another recording program.

This is awesome. I used to run an older version of Audacity, but this is the beta for a newer version which allows one of it's sources as Mono Out. Additionally, you'll actually be able to edit the audio as opposed to letting it run its full course.

Hmm, I'm running 1.3.3 right now, but I guess I should take a look at this. Now, can you perhaps explain this Mono Out business as if you were speaking to a very, very old grandmother?

Lulz. Mono Out records whatever sound come from your speakers. Like how Audio Out hooks a stereo up to speakers, if that makes any sense to you?

Yes, yes, I mean how to I do it in this new Audacity? I just finished installing it.

*Facepalm* Sorry, Gramma. There's a drop-down menu when you open it up, right below the 6 square buttons and right to the sound adjusters. It will be preset to Microphone.

OH GOD, THIS IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE. I'M ABOUT TO SAY THE WORDS OF EVERY CONFUSED TECH-LOSER PARENT EVER.

"IT'S NOT THERE."

I got 2 drop down menus, both below the output and input level meters. But those are for those meters' settings. No choices about Mono or Stereo. I don't see any other drop downs.

Here's what it looks like for me. I'm wondering if it's a difference in systems or drivers? What operating system do you run? I'm 2k but have XP and Vista at my disposal, so I can see if the trouble might be there.

Okay. Problem probably that *Ahem* I linked you to the wrong one. 1.3.3 is good, and perhaps to be safe, exact version I used is at this drop. Installed it on a machine with XP here, should work.

Uh, ok, installed that version, same interface shows up. :/

Maybe Mr Fry and Apple have worked some kind of freaky magic on me that keeps me from attempting to break DRM? It just doesn't seem in the cards.

Close iTunes, open Audacity, open iTunes? D=

Else, how much were they? I could have a shot at it.

Oh balls. I just can't seem to find anything helpful in Audacity. The manual is no help either.

SIGH. I feel lame for not being able to deliver this to everyone who is suffering. It was like $15 on iTunes or something like that.

I know, it's terribly unfortunate. I've just stopped being stupid and will now flood you with links that you might want to try if you don't mind the extra work, else I'll see if I can purchase and get them later:

I'm not sure, perhaps jackpy's suggestion would work.
