Guys! Hey guys!

I just finished reading The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer. Would you like to read it? NOW YOU CAN READ IT.

Reasons why you should want to read this book:

1. It's full of Regency-era lulz.

2. Mr Fry reads Heyer.

3. It is my personal canon that Jeeves reads Heyer.

So I'm not sure how I should run a giveaway. I am tempted to be lazy and say first person to comment wins, but that's not very sporting. How about this? Comment with your best Regency Speak. I would like to see hats doffed, breeches hitched, and all sorts of fans waved coyly. Then the winner will be not-so-objectively chosen by me (whomever makes me lol hardest, I guess? Bribery will also be cool.) and I will PM you for your address.

Uh, I guess...contest ends tomorrow night! :D YAY BOOKS.

Disclaimer: my copy is a bit dog-earred. I know, I know, I should use a sodding bookmark.

...I started to write something I thought was Regency-esque and over the top, but somehow I ended up sounding like a gay pirate.

...and I actually had to look up what Regency meant.

Well, if your contest goes on like this... Good luck.

Although, 'Mr Fry reads Heyer 'is one helluva killer argument to want to read this book.

Oh, Miss...! I know you may not recognize me, but I have made your acquaintance before, not that an important person such as yourself should have good reason to remember some poor, silly thing--an unaccomplished girl, only this year permitted by her parents to be out in society. But I assure you I have good connexions, and that you shan't suffer from such an acquaintance, and, if I may be so bold, Miss, I have always found your correspondences most entertaining--not to say that there was anything wild about them, Miss, only that your articles were quite informative and educational, and that your serials have always been such a treat--

*a loud thumping emanates from somewhere above the speaker's head, followed by a series of muffled moans*

Oh, don't you mind that, Miss, that would just be the wind. Yes! The wind. It's awfully blustery out, you know. 'Tis winter and no mistake!

*the thumping dies down, only to be followed seconds later by a loud-ish sort of crash and something that sounds not all that unlike a competing fangirl locked in a tower somewhere muttering God preserve me.... Or perhaps, somewhat anachronistically, What the f--*

I am afraid you will have to excuse me, Miss. There are... matters I must attend to. But before I go, I must reinstate my wish, no, my desire that you be my particular friend, for I feel we should be such friends, Miss, but I must go; until we see one another, again, Miss, my heart will be naught but sorrows and lamentations, you must depend on it--!

To be honest, I'm just glad other people commented, because otherwise I would have looked like an incredible dork. Instead of just a regular one, that is.

Drabble requests? That's awfully kind of you. Although, I mean, there's the obvious. But you're already doing that, so. I guess I should ask for something wayyy out there, just because.

Uhm... Noël Coward x Spode ? (Okay, that's kind of cheating.)

How about Steampunk! Jeeves x Wooster as per [livejournal.com profile] euclase's awesome drawing of awesomeness?

This does seem to be an opportune moment to play the toad eater, but as we're not even of cap acquaintance I'm sure that will only make of me a fustian fop with more hair than wit. This comment is sure to be bottle-brained enough without making anyone cast up one's accounts over such palaver.

Be that as it may, I cannot say your little contest is a maggot in one's head. For even if I am a green girl to Regency-speak, I feel that it's a shame for it to no longer the dernier cri. While it may sound like fiddle faddle to some, I must say that to the English language it is like a diamond of the first water. And having heard of the many praises of Georgette Heyer, I must admit my surprise that you are not more close-fisted of your possession.

I thank you, sister of the quill, for sharing such a generous offer to your readers. Having rolled the bones and avoided the break-teeth words, I can only hope that my cow-handed efforts will not bite.

OH JESUS I AM TICKLED PINK. My favorite bit was that we are both sisters of the quill! Daaaaaang, I wish I had way more copies of this book to give away. Oh, oh, but I feel like I should offer everyone something.

*frets*

Would you like a silly drabble or something? NAME THOUST PAIRING I GUESS?

Considering that this li'l contest was about the delightful play on language that is Regency-speak, why not have Bertie do much of the same? In an effort to impress Jeeves, Bertie tries to expand his vocabulary with more colorful words, but gets them dreadfully wrong.

More specifically I thought that Bertie could try to drop inappropriate hints of his newfound feelings for a certian valet, but somehow fails to hit the mark. Or he could unknowingly make innuendos while Jeeves struggles to restrain from tutting in a manner above his station.

Thanks for the link to the Guilty thing. Stephen likes ABBA? I think I need to lay down. Eurrgh. And he says that A-ha are Swedish! Thank you, Stephen, please continue spreading this rumour. It's not as if we want anything to do with them in Norway. Sweden can have them. And that blond from A1? SO SWEDISH.
