I am seriously considering joining NaNoWriMo this year. I have never done it before, but I've had an idea for a novel simmering for two years. I feel that if I don't write it out now, I never will and it'll go to that place where all novel ideas die. It's gonna be like this:

If you're not familiar, NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month, wherein participants try to complete a novel (50,000 words) in the month of November. That's 30 days of trying not to procrastinate and actually getting shit done. I don't expect it to be great in the end, but at least it will be finished.

Here's the problem. If I do this, I will not be able to write any fanfics. All my spare time will be dedicated to reaching my word count. I wrote up a little calendar, and it's doable, but there's no way to balance this with other writing projects. On a good day I can write 2000 words no problem. On a bad day I get nothing. On a crazy day, like the day I wrote that three-way House fic, I can write over 6000, but hopefully it won't come to that.

I figure, since the only reason I wrote fanfic is for y'all, you should have some say in whether I go through with this or not. I mean, not that I think you'll commit seppaku if you have to go 30 days without a new story about Bertie smooching Jeeves or House doing something silly and evil. I'm not saying I'm that awesome! I just...*toe shuffle*...wanna make sure I don't disappoint anyone if I do this?

Whatever! Just tell me what you think.

I voted "do wah diddy". I've probably got multiple novels or novellas of my own tucked away in the old melon, but I think NaNo should be your own decision.

If you do go in for it, I'll certainly cheerlead.

As long as you're posting, there will be love and devotion. Definitely go for it.

(Also, Do Wah Ditty option was v. tempting, managed to resist.)

If you think you can do it, go for it. NaNoWriMo is awesome, not that I can actually do it. But you definitely should.

DOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEET!

I've been thinking about doing it too. For shits and giggles. Though I'm on a bad start already since I've forgot about it. Whoops.

Regardless, I hope you do because I am eager to read yours.

I went for the third option, because I couldn't resist.

I say go for it. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like anyone is going to manacle you to a bed and break your legs with a sledgehammer if you don't reach your final wordcount. (Hopefully)

Seriously, you didn´t ask us...?
One question though, did you intend to share it with us (which would be awesome)? I mean, what you´re doing with it then?

I'm doing it. While I don't think you should put undue pressure on yourself - if I don't do it now, I never will - this is a great time to try and get a draft or a large chunk of a draft done. With thousands of other people working at the same time you are, it seems like it'd be a lot easier to be motivated to do it every day. And for me, I've considered doing it every year since I've heard of the thing, but I've never considered my schedule open enough - and it still may not be - until now.

It's a great opportunity to try something different as a writer. You've tried to write a fic in a day. A novel in a month? Personally, I can't see how you could turn it down.

(I'm formerly anonymous and also formerly under a different name... um. Yeah.)

Hello, formerly anon.! I think I will do it. I mean, look at the poll. It's clearly decided for me. It will feel nice to have a little nanowrimo support group during the month. Man! I need to finish up other project first, though. I'm already in the hole.

But I made a little word-count calendar for myself and even plan on buying a mini eee laptop just so I can write on the bus (I was gonna buy it eventually; may as well do it now?).
